Crystal Akunne is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who brings over a decade of nursing experience and more than five years of specialized psychiatric care to Kind Health. Her journey in healthcare began at Prairie View A&M University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, followed by her Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health from Walden University. Her diverse clinical background includes extensive experience as a Pediatric ICU nurse at prestigious institutions including Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and Texas Children’s Hospital, which has given her unique insights into caring for patients and families during their most vulnerable moments.
“Real healing begins when patients feel heard, valued, and understood. My approach combines evidence-based practices with a genuine respect for each patient’s lived experience. By building trust and prioritizing open dialogue, I collaborate with my patients to create treatment plans that feel meaningful, manageable, and unique to them.”
Crystal’s transition into psychiatric care was marked by roles as a Psychiatric Inpatient House Supervisor at Perimeter Behavioral Hospital and subsequent positions at Divine Mental Wellness and Mind Body Optimization. Currently serving patients at Kind Health, she treats a wide range of mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and ADHD, offering comprehensive treatment options including medication management, ADHD testing, and other evidence-based interventions tailored to each individual’s unique needs.
Crystal’s care philosophy centers around truly listening with compassion and without judgment. She believes that her work is more than a profession—it’s a calling rooted in faith and service. She approaches each patient interaction with the intention to serve, guide, and uplift, viewing mental health care as a form of ministry. Her patients often describe her as relatable, kind, and intuitive—a provider who successfully blends clinical expertise with real-world empathy. Outside of her clinical work, Crystal maintains a balanced lifestyle rooted in her faith, staying active through fitness, and enjoying time with family, particularly her young niece, while remaining committed to giving back to her community through volunteer work and service.
