Jon Taylor is a board-certified Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with experience spanning emergency medicine, inpatient psychiatry, specialty behavioral health, and correctional mental health. Since entering healthcare in 2018, he has worked with patients in high-acuity and underserved settings – experiences that shaped his structured, compassionate approach to psychiatric care.
As a registered nurse in emergency departments, inpatient psychiatric units, and eating disorder programs, Jon treated many patients in acute psychiatric crisis. He saw firsthand that emergency care often offered only temporary relief, which inspired him to pursue advanced training to provide comprehensive, long-term treatment.
“Early in my career, I recognized that many patients came to the emergency room not because of a single crisis, but because untreated psychiatric illness and addiction had gradually unraveled their lives. I chose to become a psychiatric provider because I wanted to address the root causes – to deliver meaningful, sustained treatment that helps people regain stability and rebuild their lives.”
Jon earned his Master of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, specializing in psychiatric mental health across the lifespan. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas Tech and a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, giving him a strong scientific foundation for diagnosis and treatment planning.
He completed much of his clinical training at Austin State Hospital, focusing on competency restoration and the treatment of severe and persistent mental illness, and later practiced in a correctional setting providing care for adults with complex presentations including schizophrenia, treatment-resistant bipolar disorder, PTSD, substance use disorders, depression, and anxiety.
Jon provides evidence-based medication management through a trauma-informed lens. His approach emphasizes diagnostic clarity, thoughtful prescribing, and individualized care tailored to each patient’s history, goals, and level of functioning. He values consistency, accountability, and open communication – and is committed to creating an environment where patients feel safe, understood, and supported in their progress toward improved mental health.
