JT Seaman is a doctorally-prepared Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who brings over 25 years of mental health experience to Kind Health. His journey began in 1998 and has encompassed multiple roles throughout the mental health field, culminating in his current position as both a nurse practitioner and full-time Assistant Professor at Lamar University’s Joann Gay School of Nursing. He earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice and post-master’s certification in mental health nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2021, building upon his earlier master’s degree in mental health nursing, also from Vanderbilt, completed in 2010. His dual board certifications in both Adult Psychiatric Mental Health and Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner demonstrate his comprehensive expertise across different patient populations and treatment approaches.
“I have a passion for providing safe appropriate care for individuals who suffer from mental health. That passion includes advocacy for increased access to care, judgement free care, and a campaign to increase knowledge and alleviate the stigma often associated with mental illness. It truly is ‘Okay to say’ and to talk openly and freely about mental health.”
JT’s educational background reflects a progressive journey through the nursing profession, beginning with his associate degree from Lamar University and advancing through bachelor’s and master’s programs before achieving his doctoral credentials. This extensive educational foundation has provided him with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for delivering evidence-based psychiatric care. His commitment to lifelong learning is evident not only in his own educational achievements but also in his dedication to teaching and mentoring the next generation of mental health professionals.
Currently serving as both a practitioner and educator, JT teaches undergraduate and graduate mental health nursing courses at Lamar University and has been instrumental in developing study abroad programs, leading nursing and healthcare education trips to London and Europe. His academic contributions extend to numerous research presentations and publications focused on suicide prevention, virtual clinical experiences, and innovative teaching methods in mental health education. He has worked across various clinical settings including inpatient facilities, outpatient clinics, intensive outpatient programs, emergency departments, and virtual clinics, providing him with comprehensive understanding of mental health care delivery across the full spectrum of treatment settings.
JT’s approach to care is deeply personal, recognizing that his own family, like most families, is not exempt from life’s stresses and pressures. This personal understanding, combined with his extensive clinical and academic experience, drives his commitment to providing welcoming, stigma-free mental health care. His dedication extends beyond individual patient care to include professional service on peer review boards and crisis center boards, demonstrating his commitment to advancing the field and improving access to quality mental health services while supporting individuals on their wellness journey toward increased social acceptance and freedom from mental health stigma.
