Vanessa Rye is a Board-Certified Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 15 years of specialized experience in psychiatric care across diverse clinical settings. She brings a unique combination of clinical expertise, leadership experience, and deep commitment to serving vulnerable populations throughout Texas.
“I am both honored and humbled to be a witness to others’ stories. I encourage people to find their voice and learn to use it. Part of the journey may be through tough times – part may be through joyful times. I look forward to what lies ahead.”
Vanessa earned her Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio with a perfect 4.0 GPA, completing her degree with High Honors in 2010. Her academic foundation also includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (summa cum laude) from the same institution. Throughout her career, she has consistently demonstrated excellence – a theme that began early with her nursing prerequisites at Palo Alto Community College, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Her clinical experience spans the full continuum of psychiatric care. Most recently, Vanessa has been providing inpatient psychiatric consultation via telehealth for Post Acute Medical facilities throughout Texas, working with patients in long-term acute care hospitals and intensive rehabilitation settings. Prior to this, she spent eight years at The Center for Health Care Services, where she progressed through increasingly complex roles – from outpatient medication management to crisis intervention services, and ultimately to leading psychiatric care at the Josephine Recovery Center, a crisis diversion shelter. Her work has included specialized experience with patients on clozapine therapy, long-acting injectable medications, and crisis stabilization services.
Before transitioning to advanced practice, Vanessa built a solid foundation in psychiatric nursing leadership, serving as Nurse Manager of an acute adult psychiatric admission unit at San Antonio State Hospital. She also brings valuable experience in consultation/liaison psychiatry from her time with Methodist Healthcare System, where she provided psychiatric services across the medical system for patients of all ages.
Vanessa is known for her collaborative approach and commitment to continuous improvement. She has served on numerous committees, chaired peer supervision groups for APRNs, and actively contributed to protocol development and quality improvement initiatives. Her dedication extends beyond clinical care – she has mentored graduate nursing students, developed educational programs for staff and patients, and served her community through various volunteer leadership roles.
