Dr. Lee Spencer is the founder and Medical Director of Kind Health, bringing over a decade of expertise in psychiatry and addiction medicine to telehealth mental health care. His journey in medicine began at Tulane University School of Medicine, where he was part of the historic “Katrina class” of 2009. When Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans during his first year, his entire class was relocated to Houston while Tulane rebuilt its flooded facilities. This transformative experience deepened his understanding of trauma, community resilience, and the critical importance of accessible mental health care during times of crisis.

Following medical school, Dr. Spencer completed his internship at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, focusing on intensive care and inpatient medicine, before pursuing his psychiatry residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. His leadership abilities were recognized early, as he served as Administrative Resident during his third year and Chief Resident during his final year of residency. In 2013, he furthered his specialization by completing a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, positioning him at the forefront of integrated mental health and substance use treatment.

From 2014 to 2016, Dr. Spencer served as Medical Director for chemical dependency treatment at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, where he developed comprehensive treatment programs for patients struggling with co-occurring addiction and mental illness. This experience in building treatment systems from the ground up informed his vision for Kind Health, where he could create a practice that truly lives up to its name by providing compassionate, accessible care.

Currently serving as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UT Southwestern and Medical Director of the Addiction Intensive Outpatient Program, Dr. Spencer maintains his commitment to education and mentorship. He teaches medical students, residents, and addiction psychiatry fellows, sharing his expertise through presentations and discussions whenever opportunities arise. His academic role keeps him connected to the latest developments in psychiatric care while allowing him to shape the next generation of mental health professionals.
